Suspicious E-mails Typically Rise During Tax Season

January 24, 2012

As tax season swings into gear, it is a good time to be reminded of common internet scams that target taxpayers. During tax season, fraudulent uses of the IRS name or logo by scamsters trying to gain access to consumers’ financial information in order to steal their identity and assets become more common. Terry Lockridge & Dunn has been informed of reports of e-mail tax refund scams and surveys asking for names and address information.

As a reminder, the IRS does not initiate taxpayer communications through e-mail which includes requests for detailed personal information, PIN numbers, passwords or other information regarding financial accounts.

If you have questions about identify theft or a possible phishing scam e-mail, do not hesitate to contact us.
