Sometimes the best way to learn about business and succession planning is to talk to other business leaders in the community. After all, they are facing (or have already faced) many of the same challenges you have on your plate. They have made mistakes and have learned what not to do, which is information you need to know so you are not destined to do the same.
Certain industries have trade groups that get together throughout the year to discuss important topics in that industry. These conferences are a great way to meet industry peers, ask questions and learn from others.
If you operate in an industry that does not have trade meetings, or if you simply cannot attend your industry’s meetings, I suggest speaking with your accountant or other advisor to see if a business planning group exists in your community, providing many of the same benefits.
Terry, Lockridge & Dunn would like to know if you are interested in being part of a community business forum. We encounter business owners every day and one of the advantages of our job is being able to learn and ask questions of these individuals and, in turn, share that acquired knowledge with other clients.
We envision this group to be a diverse cross-section of corridor business leaders with some very experienced individuals and some who are very new to the business world. We think there is something to be learned from every facet of the business community.
The group we envision would be different from other business groups in the area because each session would be attended by someone from our firm who would help lead the meeting and be available to discuss our own expertise in the areas of succession, tax and general business planning. In addition, this is an opportunity for you to share knowledge acquired throughout your career and to learn from some of your peers in the community.
At this time we are trying to gauge interest among our clients and friends. If this sounds like something you would enjoy, please feel free to contact our Development Director, Laura Burkle via e-mail at lburkle @tld-inc.com or by phone at (319) 364-2945.
We respect your opinion so please write us and share your thoughts!
Terry, Lockridge & Dunn and World Trend Financial provide real advice to give the business owner an edge when it comes to succession or exit planning. Steven Covey who wrote “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People” said it best when he said “Begin with the end in mind”. It is never too early to plan your business exit strategy.
